A fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England & Wales (ICAEW) and is also an alumnus of the Harvard Business School (HBS) and INSEAD. Outside work, he is keen on art and horticulture. His career spans more than three decades in both the global and Pakistani business arenas. He specializes in transformation and growth through envisioning and articulation of strategy, cultural change, and building of leadership teams, financial restructuring, and creating high energy in board rooms to drive the strategy, people’s agenda, and performance. Recently He completed his four years on 5th April as the CEO and MD of Fauji Foundation, & Chairman on the Board of Fauji companies. His tenure was marked by the massive turnaround and growth of the business, health, and education portfolios, with the revenue and market value of the portfolio increasing threefold, Waqar envisioned and articulated the strategy, selected the leadership teams, and drove a value-based culture and performance through the boards of the conglomerate. The health and education portfolios are welfare-based. An impact-driven and a patient/student-focused strategy was implemented, including investment in infrastructure, new clinical treatments, investment in schools, a new artificial limb center, A modern nursing school & new 171 state of the art Hospital. The education portion is now self-financed, and the health portfolio has seen a 25 percent increase in patient beds. Before his role at the Fauji Foundation, Waqar Malik served as the CEO of ICI Pakistan Limited from1985 to 2012. His career with the British giant Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI PLC) spanned over 28 years. He held various leadership roles in finance and business and was instrumental in creating value the businesses of ICI Pakistan and contributed to its successful divestment. He is the recipient of the third-highest civilian award (Sitara-e-Imtiaz) by the President of Pakistan for his public service and was awarded the Prince of Wales Medal by His Majesty King Charles III for flood relief work in Pakistan. During his 40 years of experience in the corporate world, he has served as a non-executive and independent director on boards of publicly listed companies regulatory and higher education institutions (Central Bank of Pakistan, Standard Chartered Bank Pakistan, Engro Corporation, Lahore University of Management Sciences).
